Cold open[]

On a rainy night, the Paburo hunt journeys into the Paburo Mountains.[7]

Flashback to town[]

At a city inn, Clare instructs Raki to wait for her return. She leaves him with all her money, but Raki only takes only what he needs for his personal expenses. When he questions her intent to return in a week, she gently taps him in the forehead.

She tells him that he had it coming. She reiterates that he must believe in her promise to return.[8]

Paburo Mountains[]

Fit for battle[]

The hunt sets camp in a cavern. As everyone gets ready for the night, Miria suddenly orders Clare out in rain to engage in a sparring match. Miria confesses that Clare's rank does not agree with Miria's initial impression of Clare's power.[9]

But despite Miria's suspicion of Clare being the most powerful Claymore warrior, she easily defeats Clare. Clare faints and is left lying face-down in the rain.[10]

Teresa[]

That night, Clare dreams of the naked figure of Teresa, swinging a sword.[11]

Something fundamentally changes inside Clare—now Clare is Teresa.[12]

Client from "Lido"[]

The hunt almost leaves in the morning without Clare.[13] Later, farther into the mountains, the hunt is met by a man who claims to be from the village of "Lido." And that he made the original request to the Organization.[14] But in a seemingly mad moment, Miria attacks the man.[15]

He dodges the blade and morphs into the Paburo awakened.[16]

Additional details[]

Notes[]

  • Unknown if "Lido" is a real village
  • The use of "Voracious Eater" for awakened being is generally dropped in the Claymore series, reappearing only once in Scene 84
  • The front face/panel of tankōbon 5 shows a red-eyed Teresa, which is often confused with Miata, giving rise to the apocryphal "Blood Eyes" Miata
