Etymology[]
First mention by Dae subordinate, referring to the rods piercing the captive Raki.[9] Previously referred to as "projectiles."[10]
Fan-reader phrase "parasitic rod" may allude to parasitic rods of Yagi antenna.
Translations add descriptions not found in the original text, which only generically speaks of 断片 danpen (fragments).[11]
Rods are sometimes referred to on reference/fan websites as an "Incarnation/Avatar of Destruction," deriving from Scene 95 original magazine title, 破壊の化身[12] (Hakai no Keshin). "Incarnation" or "avatar" not used by characters in original text or translations.
Parasitic rods differs from ordinary Yoma rods, such as those of Dauf before being infected by parasitic rods.

Class[]
Unknown type. The rods' ability appears to be enabled by a very high strength baseline (shapeshifting). Clare describes them as lifeless parasites needing a host to reproduce.[13]
Appearance[]
Rod-shaped Yoma-entity. Its life-cycle begins as part of crown-like structure, which extrudes from mouth of Destroyer. Rods are mounted like cartridges on a machine-gun belt. The crown fires a barrage of rods at a 360 degree angle.[14]
Once released, they awakened into lamprey-like creatures that further awaken into a "Hellcat" form resembling Luciela's awakened state.[15]
History[]
Renée[]
Riful[]
After the 7-year timeskip, Riful captures Renée near Doga.[16]
Renée regains consciousness. She hangs from ceiling of castle cellar. Her right arm is missing. Below sits Riful.[17]
Renée sees both her legs severed—she screams. Riful offers to let Renée reattach her limbs if she cooperates. Dauf drags in a strange object. He raises it in front of Renée.[18]
Danger[]
Renée demands that she be allowed to reattach her limbs, before probing Luciela x Rafaela.[19]
As Renée reattaches her limbs, she probes the entity. Renée finds life fragments of someone. But when she touches it, an explosion hurls her back into the physical world.[20]
She realizes the entity must never awaken.[21]
Clare[]
Lacroix[]
In Lacroix village, Clare and Cynthia fight an awakened being while Yuma knocks unconscious an Organization search and rescue team.[22] While the awakened is killed, Rubel witnesses everything. Later in a private meeting, Cynthia realizes that Rubel is a mole for the Dragons' allies.[23]
Witch's Maw II[]
Baited by Rubel, the warriors search for Renée and Rafaela. They travel across Lautrec to the west end of the peninsula. In a forest, they encounter Dauf, who grabs Yuma's leg—Clare cuts it off. While Cynthia regenerates Yuma's leg, Clare follows Dauf into Witch's Maw II.[24] Fight inside castle results. But Clare escapes.[25]
Renée takes a suppressant and flees. Dauf tries to pursue her, but she loses him. While Riful and Dauf are distracted by Renée, Clare reenters castle.[26]
Clare enters mind of Luciela x Rafaela. In dream world,[27] Clare and Jean meet Rafaela in replay from Scene 50.[28]
When Clare reaches out, Jean is gone. Rafaela attacks and kills Clare. But Clare wakes from dream within dream. Switching from Windcutter to Quicksword, Clare kills Rafaela, who gives Clare all her memories, among which is "something you must know."[29]
Destroyer[]
When Luciela x Rafaela awaken, the castle is destroyed.[30]
Clare's naked body emerges from a mass of Yoma tissue. She gazes on the sky-high entity—the Destroyer—a demonic parody of twin goddesses of love, Teresa and Clare.[31]
The Destroyer forms a crown of rods. It fires a rod barrage as Deneve and Helen reach Clare.[32]
The rods awaken into Hellcats, which attack Clare, Deneve and Helen.[33] Elsewhere, Cynthia and Yuma come upon Beth, impaled with a rod. The rod and Beth merge as they awakened together.[34] Later, the awakened Beth fights Priscilla.
Ticelli[]
Rods destroys the town of Ticelli. The Retrieval Squad finds only Raki alive.[35]
Later at Organization Headquarters, Dae discovers that Priscilla's arm prevented the rods from absorbing Raki's life-energy.[36]
Beth[]
After destroying Alicia and Beth, Priscilla pursues scent of Teresa, whose flesh Clare contains.[37]
Priscilla[]
As Deneve, Helen and Clare undergo second rod barrage, Clare senses Priscilla's approach.[38]
Clare confronts Priscilla for first time since childhood. Clare is ready to abandon friends and her humanity to avenge Teresa's death.[39]
But mental "block" prevents Clare from awakening, causing her attacks to fail. Deneve and Helen grab Clare and flee Priscilla.[40] They race toward Destroyer.[41]
Dauf[]
After Priscilla kills Alicia and Beth, she eats Riful. But Dauf survives and gives in to a rod infection, allowing him to regenerate at the cost of his consciousness.[42]
Dauf pursues Priscilla, as she pursues Deneve, Helen and Clare. He attacks Priscilla.[43] But during fight, he loses Riful's upper torso. When Dauf glances at it, Priscilla destroys his right arm, then left. Priscilla reverts to the winged, One-horned Monster.[44]
Her memory nearly restored, she kills Dauf, then continues her pursuit.[45]
Facade[]
When Priscilla reaches Deneve and Helen, the Destroyer already swallowed Clare's upper-torso.[46]
Priscilla is struck by tentacles. She disintegrates Destroyer, only to reveal its true form—a Yoma energy mass of demonic female shapes, swallowing all life it touches.[47] Priscilla too gets swallowed.[48]
