Etymology[]

防御型 translates as "defensive type." 防御 = defensive, 型 = type.[4]

The FUNimation anime uses the term "Tactical Defense" instead.[5]

Description[]

Strong survival instinct. Regeneration ability superior to the offensive type. May have less fighting potential than the offensive type.[6]

Examples are Galatea, Audrey, Veronica, Cynthia, Deneve, Yuma.

Ability[]

A regenerated limb equal in strength to the original.[7] Can regenerate other warriors injuries.

Defensive abilities include: Viscous Strike, Alignment, Instant Reproduction, Wide Area Sensing.

History[]

One of three personality types that determine fighting potential. First described by Ophelia.[8]

During the Battle of the North, Defensive types Veronica and Cynthia sacrifice themselves to divert the Insectile awakened.[9] After the offensive Helen and Jean disable Insectile, Veronica and Cynthia have regenerated their injuries and are able to deliver the coup de grace to the awakened.[10]
